Flats in Luxor is delighted to announce that they are now the official Luxor home of the Theban Mapping Project, under director Kent Weeks. The new facility will comprise accommodation for the offices of TMP as well as a public reading library A long-held dream of Kent's has been to provide guides, tourists, students, foreigners and local Egyptians with a library where they can learn more about Egypt and Egyptology, Egypt's natural history and its modern people, read English and Arabic novels, and generally enjoy books. No such facility has existed in Luxor--until now. Flats in Luxor had the ideal flat that could be converted to perform this function, in the heart of the west bank.
Kent Weeks said ‘I often get Egyptians on my team who are keen to learn more and want books. This library will be my gift to them, opening the world of literature and knowledge.”
Jane Akshar said “We are privileged to be able to provide a home for this wonderful educational facility and to Theban Mapping Project. We look forward to a long and happy association. “
Theban Mapping Project http://www.thebanmappingproject.com
Since its inception in 1978, the Theban Mapping Project (TMP, now based at the American University in Cairo) has been working to prepare a comprehensive archaeological database of Thebes. With its thousands of tombs and temples, Thebes is one of the world's most important archaeological zones. Sadly, however, it has not fared well over the years. Treasure-hunters and curio-seekers plundered it in the past; pollution, rising ground water, and mass-tourism threaten it in the present. Even early archaeologists destroyed valuable information in their search for museum-quality pieces.
Today, however, we realize that the monuments of Thebes are a finite resource. If we fail to protect and monitor them, they will vanish, and we and our descendants will all be the poorer. The TMP believes that the first and most essential step in preserving this heritage is a detailed map and database of every archaeological, geological, and ethnographic feature in Thebes. Only when these are available can sensible plans be made for tourism, conservation, and further study.
During the last decade, the TMP has concentrated on the Valley of the Kings. Modern surveying techniques were used to measure its tombs. From the data collected, the TMP has prepared 3-D computer models of the tombs. And of course, the TMP is continuing its excavation of KV 5. For the TMP staff, sharing their work with the interested public is just as important as what they do in the field. This has been done through a series of publications and this growing and award winning website.

Flats in Luxor - Arabesque House

This building is situated close to the main cross roads on the West bank down a shady lane. The top floors look towards Hatshepsut’s temple with fabulous views of the Theban Hills. The building consists of four apartments
Noor, two bedroom on the ground floor, and then Layla 2/3 bedroom followed by Noor 3 bedroom and lastly Nigma one bedroom on the roof.

This building is a refurbishment of a traditional family home and is decorated in an Islamic style with architectural features such as mashrabeya windows. It has a roof terrace and ground floor patio overlooking the canal both of which are shared by all flats.

Out Goubli building is only 5 minutes walk away guests staying at the Arabesque are welcome to use the swimming pool, free Wi-Fi and restaurant located there.
Staff are on the premises 24/7 and they clean and maintain the communal areas and will run errands or help with translation.
This building was gutted and refurbished in 2008 making it into 4 individual flats.
A delightful Arabic home in the heart of a traditional village. In fact one of our relatives lives next door and another across the way.
It faces across a canal towards the Nile but the view from the back is of the village and in the distance the temple of Hatshepsut.

A short walk take you to the main road which goes from the ferry to the Valley of the Kings. This property often appeals to guests want more interaction with Egyptians. You can even buy your fruit and vegetables from the back of donkey carts traveling on the road in front of the building

Each flat has a slightly different layout making this our most flexible building. Starting from the left we have Nigma the one bedroom on the roof, it has one bedroom and an open plan kitchen. Next down is Amar which is a three bedroom flat, with large lounge/dinning room. Then we have Layla which has an open area in place of the third bedroom, this came be used for overflow guests. Lastly Noor the two bedroom on the ground floor with its own entrance door leading straight into the lounge.

Floor plans of Flats in Luxor buildings
I have just had great fun using this web tool that draws floor plans. Check out the pictures, the are not perfect or to scale and the furniture is nothing like that but they give the general layout.

This is the original flats in Luxor at Al Gezera, three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Al Gezera has 4 flats like this and all are for rent or sale.

this is Goubli a block of 7 three bedroom two bathroom flats, 5 are for sale and 6 are for rent.

The East Bank flats are 5 flats, 3 three bedroom two bathroom. There are also two one bedroom flats on the ground floor. One three bedroom is for sale and both one bedroom flats. You can also rent these flats as well as a two bedroom. The middle bedroom is locked off with the owners personal stuff in it.

Lastly the Arabesque below is the layout for the three bedroom and above the layout for the two bedroom. In this block there are 1 three bedroom, 2 two bedroom and a penthouse. All are for rent and 3 of the 4 are for sale.

Flats in Luxor photographs

We were lucky enough to have a professional photographer, Bruce Hemming, come to Flats in Luxor to take photos for a magazine article. He them sent me a PDF and asked me to chose one, how on earth do you chose out of this stunning array of property photographs. He was doing a feature on property for sale in Luxor, we were talking and felt that investors were being more realistic and not looking for a quick buck but a holiday home or retirement property that they would have for years. Property bought and sold on that basis makes everyone happy.
We have four buildings with flats, villas in the Nubian Eco Village and the Upside Down Villa, which is a luxury villa. All these are for sale, prices range from $50,000 to $150,000 USD and all papers are in order.
• East Bank
o One bedroom ground floor
o Three bedroom 2 bathroom first floor
• West Bank
o Arabesque house (access to Goubli facilities)
Two bedroom ground floor
Three bedroom first floor
One bedroom penthouse
o Goubli (with swimming pool and restaurant)
Three bedroom 2 bathroom (g, 1, 2, 3 floors)
One bedroom penthouse (planned)
o Al Gezera (with swimming pool)
Three bedroom 2 bathroom (1, 2, 3 floor)
• Villas
o One bedroom domed villas (access to Goubli facilities)
o Ezba villa partially complete
o Desert Upside Down Villa partially complete
If there isn’t something in that little lot that takes your fancy I will be surprised. All these properties have proper papers and we would arrange transfer.
