Cairo, train, camels from Flats in Luxor

Tours from Flats in Luxor
This unique piece of marketing highlights that Flats in Luxor isn't just Luxor nor is it just accommodation. We often arrange entire tours of Egypt for people who want a quality, independent and completely tailored itinerary.

Jane Akshar and Mahmoud Jahlan can work with you to suggest places that fit YOUR interests and time available.

In Cairo we have excellent guides with good Egyptology and can recommend hotels all over the city from 3* cheap and cheerful to 5* dead posh.

As the picture shows transport from camels to trains can be used for transfers, though most people go for internal flights where available.

The desert, middle Egypt, scuba diving, Nile cruises and safaris have all been options we have arranged for our guests.

And of course Hidden Luxor with Hussein Omar and his team of guides

BTW if you are wondering where the picture comes from it is based on old tourism posters that Jane Akshar stitched in cross stitch

Hurghada pickup to Flats in Luxor

Today was a slightly different airport pick up, from Hurghada to Luxor. My lady guest was very pleased to get here after a long day. We pick up for $35 GBP from Hurghada when you are staying at Flats in Luxor. The drive takes about three and half hours door to door. My guest was very pleased with this cheap alternative using EasyJet to Hurghada and our pick up service to Luxor.

News/rumours about Uk direct flights

Received from a friend and backed up by other similar rumours :)

Was told today that above were supposed to be resuming flying in to Luxor 5th March.

Checked Thomson web site and they are showing taking bookings for that date BUT from Gatwick only - so far nothing from Manchester.

I tried to check availability for flight only - but nothing doing it cruise or hotel with them only so far.

Thought I'd let you know that things look to be moving from UK but before you go into print with good news (for the south of England anyway) would prefer you to check my info just to make sure its correct rather than going off on wrong information and getting every ones hopes up, I'm sure you will have contacts who can confirm if its right or wrong.

EasyJet continues to make Flats in Luxor guest happy

Our 4th group of guests arrived tonight 40 minutes early and very happy. It was a group of three people who had booked separately, no one had paid more than £200 GBP return and the best price was £80 to Luxor and £90 from Luxor so a return price of £170 GBP, not bad!!

Also they brought me a copy of the EasyJet inflight magazine which includes my destination guide to Luxor.

EasyJet to Flats in Luxor

The first EasyJet flight landed in Luxor 3rd Nov and I had three sets of guests on it. It is a natural combination a self catering apartment or villa from the Flats in Luxor Group and a cheap flight from EasyJet. So how did my guests find it using EasyJet for their cheap holiday in Egypt to see the ancient culture? How did it compare to a deal using a charter flight and hotel. Well we came out on top!!

First the price they paid for their flight depending on how far in advance they booked the flight. The cheapest was £87 return and the most expensive was £250 return. So to get the cheapest deal on a flight to Luxor, Egypt, book early.
Every one of them said they would use EasyJet to fly to Luxor again and would recommend it to their friends. Most of them took their own food but those that did have the food were quite satisfied.

So the cost of one week if you book in advance and were a family of 5 sharing one of Flats in Luxor three bedroom apartments with private swimming pool. Would be £164 per person, full board would be £234, that’s right a holiday in Luxor Egypt for a family of 5 for £820. EasyJet/Flats in Luxor; what a combination.

Come on EasyJey!! With cheap flights and cheap accommodation at Flats in Luxor.

Luxor, no longer a luxury - Africa, Travel - The Independent: "Luxor, no longer a luxury

The city that is the cradle of civilisation is now a no-frills flight destination. Simon Calder enjoys this Nile gem that offers culture and pleasure in equal measure

We say

Gatwick's longest no-frills flight begins next week. The destination, five hours away, of the easyJet plane is the city on the Nile that combines an astonishing amount of history with a laid-back vibe and clear blue November skies

EasyJet to start Gatwick flight to Luxor - www.travelweekly.co.uk

What a combination for a cheap holiday Easyjet and Flats in Luxor. EasyJet to start Gatwick flight to Luxor - www.travelweekly.co.uk: "Services will depart Gatwick twice a week, on Monday and Wednesday, with passengers bound for the Valley of the Kings and Nile cruises.

At present, only charter carriers serve Luxor. Thomson, Thomas Cook and Monarch each fly once a week from Gatwick, while charters also operate from Manchester, Birmingham and Bristol.

EasyJet’s flights will raise capacity sharply.

Its pricing, leading in at £127.81 return including tax, is likely to take business from existing carriers on the route.

Egypt welcomes stranded tourists - World Blog - msnbc.com

It is not just Flats in Luxor that is extending help to stranded tourists as per my last post but all of Egypt. That is the sort of country it is, we look after our tourists, they are precious to us.Egypt welcomes stranded tourists - World Blog - msnbc.com: "But in Egypt’s airports, you won’t find hapless visitors trying to catch some sleep on makeshift bedrolls, or slumped in plastic chairs. Tour guides are under strict orders not to drop anyone off at the airport until they have confirmed their flights."

Credit Crunch Holidays

With money so tight at the moment and the collapse of one of the UK budget charter airlines holidays need to be good value, inexpensive but interesting and use a scheduled carrier. What about Egypt? What about EgyptAir?

Egypt is not the first destination to come to mind but with internal costs extremely low even when you add on a flight the holiday becomes affordable. I have flown EgyptAir to the UK on numerous occasions and once to Japan, I prefer getting the greater leg room and luggage allowance. With charter airlines you seem to pay extra for everything which a scheduled flight provides automatically. EgyptAir is competitive on price and flies into all Egyptian cities like Cairo and Luxor. For non British tourists scheduled is your only choice and many other airlines fly here from all the European destinations as well.

There are 3 types of holidays 5*, 3* and backpacker. Do remember these stars are Egyptian ones so paying through the nose for a 5* hotel is not going to give you a Tiffanies experience. So why bother. Backpacker accommodation is great for the young and young at heart and is certainly cheap out here. But the real bargains are in 3* hotels or self catering apartments like mine. Flats in Luxor www.flatsinluxor.com BTW flat is British for apartment :) We offer 3 bedroom apartments that sleep 6 with fully fitted kitchens, Western bathrooms AND a swimming pool, free Wi-Fi, in-house restaurant. All for $50 USD low season $70 USD high season. Divided by 6 now where could you get such great accommodation for the price. Now that is a bargain.

Similarly food experiences like falafel, foul and koshery are ridiculously cheap and very nourishing. Koshery a mixture of lentils, pasta, rice and a sauce is under 20 cents. But if you want the Egyptian experience try Felfela in Cairo or Sofra in Luxor. Real Egyptian food at real Egyptian prices. A great meal for under $10 but don’t worry it is not spicy like Indian food but really tasty. And also don’t worry about a dickey tummy. Actually fresh food cooked locally is safer than many a buffet left out for hours.

Add to that the most stunning array of historical sites like the pyramids and sphinx, Tutankhamen‘s tomb, the temple of Hatshepsut, the most famous female Pharaoh, the sound and light at Karnak temple, camel rides in the desert, sailing boats at sunset on the Nile. Now that is a holiday.

A word about safety. There are some odd areas of Cairo I would not fancy walking around at 2 am, that is the same in any country. Think about downtown New York or the East End of London however the tourist areas are safe and mugger free. In fact we (Although I am British I live here in Luxor, Egypt) are not quite sure what muggers are? Refreshing isn’t it?

Any troubles you have read about are likewise miles away from the tourist areas. Would you let a problem in Mexico stop you holidaying in Canada, exactly? Giza and Gaza are not the same place. The only problems you will get round the pyramids at Giza are camel drivers trying to get you to take a ride. That is a monetary one as well as a flea ridden one.
